New Routine
This year will be special. This year will be fantastic! What is your hope for the new year? Go lean in 2018? Be seen in 2018? Happy teen in 2018? Go green in 2018? (Green, as in recycling and environmental health, not green like California is growing and selling legally now!) My intention will be new routine in 2018. In this week’s reading from Psalm 139 we see, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” I feel like my daily routine needs a tune up, so it more closely matches the tune the Lord sings over me. I wonder what is written in the Lord’s book about our days - just the total number? Maybe some individual days are highlighted in His book. Maybe there’s a graph of our days, with the routine days running flat but the exciting days and holy obedient days spiking joyfully upward. I need to build exercise back into my physical routine, and I think I’ll be healthier if I build up my spiritual routine, too. The reading from Galatians 2 shouts this mind-blowing message that I can take for granted - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. What will my routine look like when I remove myself more and more and let Christ direct my day? I suspect it will be less flat routine, with more days spiking up to His glory.
