Cat in a Hat
I was late for work today because I was trying to take pictures of Naughty Cat in a birthday hat. She was not a willing model, but it was our daughter’s birthday, and Naughty Cat needed to send her birthday greeting to Stephanie in Oregon. Obviously, my priorities were out of whack this morning. I could have done the photo shoot last night or last week, but I didn’t think of it then. In the first reading from Acts, the disciples were faced with a situation regarding priorities as well. As soon as they were made aware of the situation, “the Twelve gathered all the disciples together” and made a plan to correct the issue by setting a new priority for some of the group. The men who were “full of the Spirit and wisdom” were sent out while those that stayed gave their “attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Each group had a set goal and worked toward it whole-heartedly. The Scripture says a few verses later, “So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly…” It’s so good for the Kingdom as well as the individual to set a goal with the Lord and ask for His guidance in setting priorities. I tend to ask the Lord to guide my big goals and sometimes forget to ask Him to help me prioritize daily activities. That forgetfulness might lead to taking pictures of the cat in a hat when I should be punctual at the office. My personality trait of procrastination doesn’t help me either, but then the Holy Spirit works with us to be more and more like Christ, so I have the opportunity to get better, right? Blessings to you as you prioritize your day with the Lord of the big picture and the tiny details!
