Extraordinary
We had dinner with Arizona Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald last night! Well, he sat at the table behind us and we didn’t speak, but still, we ate at the same time near each other. It was exciting just being in the presence of someone extraordinary. At the Advent service this Wednesday, Pastor Alan asked for a volunteer and a second grade girl came up and was asked to help him unwrap a present from under the Christmas tree. The girl and the gift were instantly extraordinary and all the young children in the pews stood up so they could see. We could feel their excitement, both over the gift and over their singing and involvement with the worship service. What a blessed and joyous way to begin our Advent worship services! In our reading from John, Jesus said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Our sweet little believers sang with gusto and engaged in worship whole-heartedly. The presence of the Lord in and near believers helps us transcend the ordinary, doesn’t it? Sometimes I envision Jesus sitting across from me when I pray. I stay better focused that way, and my spirit is excited and open to hear from Him. How excited could we be if we imagined Jesus on the altar during worship, sitting next to us in the car, eating behind us at a restaurant, discussing the news with our friends, holding our hand in the dark, playing games with our family. Whether we are too busy this time of year, or bored with the mundane things of life, or happily planning for Christmas, let’s picture Jesus with us. It’s more than exciting to be in the presence of our extraordinary Savior, always. Advent blessings, Larry’s new friend
