World's Best Dad
Readings: Isaiah 55:8-11, Acts 13:1-3, Matthew 28:18-20
Thought-provoking cartoon, isn’t it? Did you notice the coffee mug on God’s desk that says “World’s Best Dad”? After a week of horrible events around the world, is He about to push the yesbutton? After a wonderful VBS week at Shepherd and with our missionaries working mightily for God in Guatemala, and unreported goodness in our communities, is He willing to click the nobutton and save us? We might think there’s something we can do to sway God’s decision. In the reading above from Isaiah, the Lord says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” That’s a great and awesome mystery. I, for one, am relieved that God doesn’t think like I do. His ways are not my ways and He doesn’t act like I do. The world would definitely be in danger of the ‘delete’ button if humans were in charge. Jesus said in the Matthew reading above, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” All authority. Praise our Savior, that’s what we need. He has all authority, we don’t. So, why do we act like we have the authority? It’s time to surrender all we are to the World’s Best Dad.
Trusting in His saving grace with you, Tracy
