Tucked in the Heart
Readings: Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-9, Ephesians 6:10-20, Mark 7:14-23
In the reading from Deuteronomy, we are told, “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.” I find comfort and faith in remembering great things my eyes have seen the Lord do and beautiful things I’ve tucked in my heart, don’t you? I delight in remembering the great blessing of family get-togethers, seeing our baby daughter sleeping on my husband’s chest, the pure joy in our girls’ eyes when they found the Barbie Grand Hotel next to the Christmas tree, my mom’s beautiful but groggy smile when she came out of open heart surgery. I could write a book of marvelous things my eyes have seen and my heart has remembered. What good thing is your heart remembering right now? Moses told his people to remember the great things God had done, follow the Lord’s commandments, and teach future generations to do the same. The devil will try to tempt us or scare us or scheme against us so the goodness of God slips from our mind for just a second, and then we are in danger of something wonderful slipping from our heart. Be careful, friends, and give yourself time to recall great blessings in your life and praise God for them. Maybe you are praying for a great blessing today…like Moses, we know our God is near when we pray - a wonderful wonder - God is with us always!
Keep tucking good things in your heart,
