Fours

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn away from it.” Proverbs 22:6"

A snap shot of a Four year old:

Social: Interacts with peers, uses words instead of actions to communicate enjoys the company of others

Physical: has developed motor skills, has accuracy in movement…Is Energetic!

Emotional: Independent, has attachments with peers, beginning to show empathy, Gaining control of emotions

Cognitive: improving verbal skills, able to recall and retell, longer attention span,
connects experiences, beginning to understand symbolic, large vocabulary

Spiritual: Sings, Prays, Worships enthusiastically

The Four year old needs:

Social: small and large group activities, TIME to interact with peers, opportunities to succeed, encouragement

Physical: play-dough, tearing, cutting, tracing, room to run and climb, movement and dance, games with rules, easel painting

Emotional: encouragement, time for friendships, role models for problem solving,
help with negotiating, opportunities to show care

Cognitive: opportunities to listen and recall, labeling, manipulatives to count, sort, compare, Stories, experiences, exposure to new and varied materials and concepts, repetition, tme to discover and practice

Spiritual:  Worship, songs, stories, prayers, dramatic opportunities, unconditional love, exploration of God’s World, Jesus as their very best friend

Creative: Movement, music, ‘Stuff” to explore and create
