Fourth Grade - Jean Selle
After graduating from Concordia, Seward with an elementary education degree, I have been teaching in Lutheran schools for over 20 years. My career has taken me all the way from Michigan and Ohio to Minnesota and Wisconsin and finally now to Arizona. Grades I have taught include Kindergarten, second, third and fourth grades. They are all my favorite!
I have enjoyed fourth grade curriculum especially studying Arizona and I take a special interest in Native Americans of the Southwest. Along with the state study, the fourth grade studies all regions of the U.S., physical, life, and earth sciences, the Bible from Old to New Testament, and intriguing literature studies such as My Side of the Mountain and Shiloh along with award winning stories in our reading text. Students journal, have writing prompts, write expository paragraphs, study grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and parts of speech. We consistently review in math so new concepts may be solidly engrained and cover concepts such as fractions, word problems, long division and double digit multiplication.

Schoolnotes
In the past I have enjoyed needlework and refinishing furniture but my very favorite pastimes are reading adventure stories, traveling, and visiting with family, especially my son, Eric, and my daughter and her husband, Rachel and Eric. I have been blessed by the families and staff here at Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran School. Their support and encouragement definitely are uplifting!
My favorite Bible verse is: Romans 8:38-39.
