Donation Information
Your donation will be part of the Foundation distribution of funds to qualified individuals or organizations, in accordance with our policy that does not tolerate race, color, national origin, gender or socio-economic bias or discriminating practices.
The State of Arizona Private School Tax Credit
Married taxpayers that file a joint return may contribute up to $1,000. Single taxpayers or heads of household may contribute up to $500. If the contributed amount is greater than the actual income tax liability, the law allows a carry forward for up to five years. For detailed information, please go to the State of Arizona's information sheet at http://www.revenue.state.az.us/brochure/707.pdf .
Arizona State income tax forms 301 and 323 are used for claiming this tax credit. Visit www.revenue.state.az.us for printable forms. The donation does not qualify for the Private School Tuition Tax Credit if given for the benefit of one’s own dependant.
Your donation to the Shepherd of the Desert Education Foundation is a tax credit that is deducted off the amount of owed state taxes. Unlike a tax deduction, which decreases your taxable income, the Arizona Tuition Tax Credit goes to the bottom line of your state tax return and reduces your taxes due by the amount of your gift.
In addition to the Arizona Tax Credit, your donation also may be claimed as a tax deduction when you itemize on your federal income tax.
Your generosity is rewarded when your Arizona state tax liability is reduced by the amount of your donation, plus you can still use the amount as a deduction on your federal income tax return.
A WIN/WIN Situation:
- A child who could not afford to go to a Christian school can now consider attending.
- A student attending a Christian school, enrolled in grade six through twelve, may be eligible for scholarship awards based on academic excellence.
- Your donation literally costs you nothing because the amount you give becomes an Arizona tax credit. This credit can be used to reduce your tax liability up to $1,000 annually for a joint tax return and up to $500 for single taxpayers.
- You also get a tax deduction on your Federal income tax if you itemize deductions.
